H&M’s latest summer bikini campaign featuring an ultra tanned Isabeli Fontana has been heavily criticized for promoting an unhealthy obsession with tanning. Fontana, who was actually born a white women, is shown tanned right into another race. The truth is, nothing will get you as quite as tan as a liberal amount of Photoshopping. So an unknown street artist in Hamburg decided to remind everyone who sees the H&M posters that this is the case with a carefully tacked on Photoshop tool bar. Cheeky and effective.

Nice. These ads are everywhere and, in my opinion, ridiculous. I find it difficult to believe that these are relatable to anyone - they reek of all sorts of body image issues, not just tanning. The visual strikes me as a bizarre, awkward contrast to the price point - but maybe that’s the idea? I doubt H&M would really delve that deep though, and I shouldn’t be all that surprised.

That awkward moment when you’re watching Jimmy Fallon’s opening monologue to realize his final joke was in reference to the most popular news story to come out of your quaint little English hometown since, well, ever.

At first you think, cool, somehow Stourport(!) has managed to infiltrate North American popular culture enough to get a mention on a popular late night talkshow.

But then you come to the realization that this means that the little town you call home will be forever known as the place where people ~~stupid~~ chavvy enough to steal £11,000 ($17,000) of sex toys come from.

Fantastic.

Nokia Pure typeface by Dalton Maag, winner of the Graphics category in the Design Museum’s Designs of the Year 2012. The London based designers created the font for the Finnish mobile company as a response to a tight brief: producing a modern sans serif that has continuity in English, Arabic and Thai scripts amongst others.

The release of the typeface coincided with Nokia’s new visual identity, portraying their functional and simplified products in a highly competitive mobile phone market. The typeface is highly readable both on- and off-screen, on a tiny and huge scale, embodying clarity, simplicity and precision. This is reflected in the refined name of the typeface: Pure.

More languages can be adopted to the font (as planned with Chinese). The introduction of the typeface with Nokia’s new generation of mobile phones shows the company are ready to compete with the biggest brand in the industry, in both technology and design.
